As the years pass we must stop to reflect upon the impact that we have on the environment as caused by the methods and materials that we use every day. Advances in chemistry and on-site methodology continue to shape future of the products that we install around the World and it is our great responsibility to preserve and protect our environment for future generations to come. Members of the CFCAO are voluntarily reducing the use of solvent based products, optimizing cement contents, and building high quality finished products (future maintenance is not green).
Solvent based curing compounds can be replaced with water based systems that do not contain volatile and harmful volatile agents. We encourage all specifiers to delete solvent based systems from specifications and replace them with more friendly water based systems (curing membranes or liquid hardeners/sealers). Please note that water based curing compounds may not be glossy like solvent based systems.
Concrete mixes commonly include cement replacing by-products from the iron (slag cement) and coal burning (fly ash) industries. We encourage the use of 10% cement replacement in cold weather with either slag or flyash and up to 25% slag or 15% fly ash in hot weather summer months.
Please click HERE for more information on concrete mixes.
Wet curing is ideal for concrete but polyethylene and specialty curing sheets are not recyclable. We are working hard to find industry partners interested in recycling polyethylene materials (please e-mail the Association if you have any ideas).
CFCAO members are committed to high quality finished products. High quality is GREEN because it minimizes or eliminates future maintenance.
