Crazing commonly appears on many steel trowel finished concrete surfaces. Crazing is the exposure of surface bleed water channels. While generally not visible on new surfaces, normal wear under traffic makes these fine, surface cracks visible as the surface layer of cement is worn away. As the concrete surface wears under traffic, crazing becomes visible over time.
Crazing cracks are not the same as shrinkage cracks and will not affect the performance of a concrete floor.
Crazing becomes more evident when the floor is wet.
Crazing is more evident on plain surfaces that do not have a surface applied dry shake hardener.
Crazing is more evident with high water content concrete mixes.
Crazing may be more evident when the floor is constructed in hot, windy, dry installation conditions.
